Serve-A-Thon 2008 was held on May 17th

A day of widespread community service projects, Serve-A-Thon is designed to be a way for volunteers
to become involved with Pass It Along and to give back to their community.  Projects range from minor home improvements, landscaping, yard work, cooking meals, environmental work, and much more. All of the projects help individuals and organizations in our community.

Serve-A-Thon 2008 kicked off with an opening ceremony and breakfast at the pavillion
at Sussex County Community College at 8:30 am.

34 service projects were completed around Sussex County, Northern Morris County and parts of Warren County.  Over 400 volunteers came out on a beautiful sunny day and worked tirelessly to complete these projects.  Thank you to all of you!  Without your volunteerism, we could not put together such a meaningful, important event.  The many nonprofits and individuals who benefited from these projects are very grateful and would like us to extend our thanks to all of you!

We added a new aspect to our Serve-A-Thon this year...
A Mini Serve-A-Thon for our "Little Citizen's ".  This took place at SCCC immediately following the
opening breakfast.  From 10 am to 12 noon, parents along with their children, ages 3-12, participated
in their own service projects geared just for their ages.  Examples of mini Serve-A-Thon projects were making Giggle Bags for children going in for chemotherapy at St. Barnabas and St. Joseph's Hospitals, writing letters to wounded soldiers at The National Naval Medical Center Marine Detachment in Bethesda, MD, sorting food collected for local food pantries, creating books for NORWESCAP, and many more!  This took place right at the pavillion at the college.

We also are very proud to say that the first annual FOODSTOCK was a huge success as well.  Almost 15,000 pieces of food were collected and distributed to 15 different food pantries around Sussex County!!!
